How Much Does a Silversea Cruise Cost?

If you're new to Silversea, or to what we refer to as "True Luxury" cruise lines, one of the first questions is likely to be around price.  There are a number of factors that affect the price of a Silversea cruise, and Silversea offers three pricing options.  Once price is understood, then there's the related question of whether the price represents good value.

The factors that affect the price of a Silversea cruise are:

  • The suite you choose
  • The length of the cruise
  • Whether it's a Classic or Expedition voyage.

Before we look more closely at these factors, let's look at Silversea's pricing options.

Silversea - Understanding the Different Pricing Options

Silversea offers three cruise fares:

  • Door-to-Door
  • Port-to-Port
  • Essential

All options include food and beverages onboard and the butler service, so we haven't listed those as inclusions below.

Door-to-door (All Inclusive)

The Door-to-Door fares are the most inclusive and therefore the more expensive of the three options.  It includes:

  • Private Executive Transfers (more details in this article)
  • International flights (generally Economy with Business Class upgrades possible)
  • Airport transfers
  • Pre and Post cruise accommodation (may not be available on all itineraries)
  • Shore Excursions

The advantage of the Door-to-Door fares is the peace of mind that everything is taken care of and the moving parts outside of joining the cruise are connected with the overall Silversea experience.

The aspect that many Fine Travel clients find valuable is the pre cruise accommodation and transfers (where available) as it is otherwise common to spend time confirming where the port is, what accommodation is close to the port (that is in keeping with the overall quality of the experience) and when to be picked up to board on time.

Port-to-Port (Just the Cruise)

The Port-to-Port fare is the more traditional approach to how cruise lines offer fares.  The pre and post cruise benefits are excluded, and the fare is just focussed on the onboard experience.

As a full-service travel agency, Fine Travel can assist with booking airfares, accommodation and transfers.

Essential

The Essential fares are relatively new and are only available on selected itineraries.  The main difference with this fare type is that it excludes shore excursions, but otherwise has the same inclusions as Port-to-Port.

How Much Do Different Suites Cost?

As a True Luxury cruise line, all Silversea ships only have suites, and each suite has a window or a balcony. It will be no surprise that the size of the suite you choose will affect the price.  All suites are generous, so some of the factors to consider when choosing a suite include:

  •  The length of the voyage - On a longer cruise you may like to allow yourself a little more space.
  • Number of sea days - If a voyage has a number of sea days, you'll be spending more time on the ship and in your suite so again more space may be preferred.
  • Expeditions cruises - On an expedition cruise you may have more shore excursions and therefore spend less time in your suite.  You could potentially then lean towards a smaller suite, but also keep in mind that an expedition cruise may have more sea days (for example when crossing the Drake Passage to Antarctica) so a balance may be required.
  • Comfort at sea - Most modern cruise ships have sophisticated stabilisation systems to reduce the risk of sea sickness.  If you're prone to see sickness, then a mid-ship suite can further reduce the risk of sea sickness.

As you move up through the suite categories, there are more inclusions to be considered too.

Day by Day - All Inclusive Pricing

Sometimes the overall price of a luxury cruise can be confronting, but if viewed through the lens of the voyage being an all-inclusive package, the day-by-day rate for what will be a true luxury experience can feel like better value.  The cruise fare includes:

  • Accommodation
  • All meals and beverages
  • Transport between ports
  • Entertainment
  • Shore Excursions (where included)

Generally, when booking an overseas non-cruise holiday, expenses like meals and beverages, entertainment and activities tend to get put on the credit card and aren't thought of as much as the cost of accommodation and transport costs.

Classic vs Expedition Voyages

In addition to its Classic Voyages, Silversea offers Expedition itineraries to destinations like Antarctica, the Galapagos (where it has as dedicated ship), the Arctic and Alaska.  Expeditions cruises are more expensive than the Classic voyages because of the additional onboard expertise of the Expedition team, the additional equipment needed (zodiacs etc) and the extra attention on safety.

As a True Luxury cruise line, the Silversea Expedition experience falls into the "Soft Expedition" category - so while adventurous, guests are still treated to the luxury onboard experience Silversea is known for.

So What Does a Silversea Cruise Cost?

To give you a sense of the cost of a Silversea cruise, here are some example itineraries to popular regions.  It's also important to note that for the New Zealand market, Silversea prices its itineraries in Australian dollars so there is an exchange rate differential to factor in.

A 7-night cruise from Athens to Athens in July 2025 starts from:

Door to Door = A$1,843* per guest per day (twin share) = A$25,800* per couple

Port to Port = A$1,157* per guest per day (twin share) = A$16,400* per couple.

This itinerary currently has a sale and therefore is discounted below these fares until 31 August 2024.

A 14-night cruise from Athens to Athens in July 2025 starts from:

Door to Door = A$1,186* per guest per day (twin share) = A$33,200* per couple

Port to Port = A$1,078* per guest per day (twin share) = A$30,200* per couple.

*Fares are indicative only and subject to availability.
