The US Department of Homeland Security and Transportation Security Administration implemented new security measures in 2017 and Air New Zealand must comply with them.  Extra security measures will be in place for passengers flying to the USA from 21 April 2018.

What Are the New US Security Measures?

Air New Zealand has identified the following as the key new requirements that passengers should be aware of:

  • Customers will be required to carry a printed or digital copy of their flight ticket.
  • Customers may be asked to switch on all electronic devices (so make sure that these are fully charged prior to any US bound flight).

To allow for these new requirements, Air New Zealand has advised Fine Travel that:

Airport check-in and bag drop for US bound flights from Auckland, Rarotonga and London Heathrow will open four hours prior to departure, so please advise all customers to allow additional time to complete check-in formalities and proceed through security. Customers are strongly advised to allow extra time to complete all check-in, security and boarding requirements and to be aware these may cause additional congestion.

New Zealand passport holders should also remember to ensure that they have a valid US ESTA before travelling.

Should you have any questions about these measures before your flight to the USA, please contact us.
